Obituary for Alice I. Anderson
Alice Irene Delegard Anderson of Frederic, WI, died July 8, 2016 at the age of 94. She was born in Ridgeland, Wisconsin, on April 3, 1922, and was the third daughter of Hannah and Nels Delegard.
Alice graduated from the Washburn farm school, and continued her education in Duluth. She then worked at Montgomery Wards in Rice Lake. From there, she secured a job at the ration office, also in Rice Lake, during WWII. It was there she met her future husband, Maynard who was home on leave from the service.
When the war was over Alice and Maynard were married (1946), and Alice was employed by Stein Motors in Rice Lake. Their first son, Richard (Dickie) was born in 1949. Shortly after his birth they started a grocery store in Almena, and in 1951 they moved to Frederic and started the Clover Farm grocery store which later became the IGA. Once they settled in Frederic they had 3 more children: Judy, Sue and David.
Alice served on the Pilgrim Lutheran Church Board and was active in the community, though all who knew her knew that her family was always her top priority.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; their son, Richard (Dickie); sisters, Haldis, Clara and Millie; and brothers, Carol and Ernie.
She is survived by her sisters, Hazel of Minneapolis, and Ella of Glenwood City; children, Judy Anderson (Hans Salewski) of Rice Lake, Sue Anderson (Cris Groenendaal) of New York, and David Anderson (Pat) of Frederic; grandchildren, Jennifer Christensen (Tony) of Shell Lake, Andrew Golden of Eau Claire, Zach Anderson of Frederic, Alli Anderson of Stillwater, Lucas Groenendaal of Chicago, and Emily Groenendaal of New York; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Chelsea, Hailey and Grace Christensen and Bryley and Easton Golden.
A Gathering will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Frederic from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Cameron, Wisconsin.
