Obituary for Arlene B. Olson
Arlene B Olson, 83, passed away on December 30, 2016 at her home near Bone Lake, Wisconsin. Arlene was born September 27, 1933 in St. Paul, MN to Ervin and Sylvia Trantow.
Arlene graduated from Milltown High School in 1951 and attended Logan University in St. Louis, Missouri. She married Vern Olson on November 6, 1954 and they had three children, Lynn, Gale, and Dean. The family originally settled in Columbia Heights, MN and later Mounds View, MN. After retirement, they moved to Bone Lake near Milltown, WI and built a new home close to Rest Point Resort which had been owned in prior years by Arlene's parents.
Arlene worked for a period of time at Briggs Transportation in St. Paul, and later at Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN. Most of her years were spent as a loving mother and housewife. Arlene and family helped for many years at Rest Point Resort until the resort was sold in 1965. They also have enjoyed their cabin on Bone Lake since the early 1960's and have had many special moments watching children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren grow up at the lake. In later years, Arlene and Vern made several winter trips to the Ft. Myers, FL area to visit Arlene's parents. Recently, Arlene's health declined and she entered the Frederic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2016. Vern made sure she was well cared for and visited every day. She was able to come home at Christmas and was visited by all the children for the traditional holiday dinner that Vern and Arlene prepared for so many years.
Arlene is preceded in death by her mother and father and brother, LeRoy. She is survived by her husband, Vern; brother, Marlyn Trantow; children, Lynn (Duane) Rubner, Gale (Peter) Donlan, and Dean (Sue) Olson; 8 grandchildren, Heather Rubner, Jacqueline Rubner, Samantha Long (Rubner), Andrew Donlan, Kelly Vold (Donlan), Mary Buth (Donlan), Amy Barber (Olson), Erik Olson; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
A special thanks to the Frederic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they provided to Arlene. Arlene will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Georgetown Lutheran Church in Balsam Lake on Friday, January 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin one hour before the service with a lunch to follow. Reverend Paul Settergren will be officiating. Arlene will be laid to rest at Milltown Cemetery following the service.
