Obituary for Cora M. Dversdall
Cora Mae (Lung) Dversdall, 78, passed away quietly Sunday, January 3, 2016 at home in Frederic, WI.
Cora lived a rich and full life; she was quick to laugh, and passionate with a spirit that was loving, caring, sharing and life-giving throughout her life.
Cora was born on April 4, 1937 in St. Paul, Minnesota. to the Hugo and Bertha (Komm) Lung. She graduated from St. Louis Park High School and the University of Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her brother, Hugo R. Lung and sister-in-law, Bernadine Lung.
On June 10, 1961, she married Air Force Lt. Dean A. Dversdall. Dean's career took them to Dayton, Ohio (twice); Ft. Worth Texas; Landover Maryland; Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada; Great Falls, Montana; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and retirement back in Frederic.
Cora retired as an elementary school teacher having taught in St. Anthony Village, Minnesota; Northridge, Ohio; Prince Georges County, Maryland; Mid-Del Schools, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her husband, Dean; children, Duncan A. (Julie) Dversdall and Bart C. (Paula) Dversdall; 5 grandchildren, Drake A., Noah C., Ruth E., Dara A. and Dax A., step-sisters, Diane K. (Kenneth) Corinn, Barbara (Glenn) Anderson; special friend, John (Elizabeth) Welch and their children, Stormy J. and Katie A.; sisters-in-law, Sandra (William) Turk, Deborah (Richard) Erickson and their children, Timothy, Tamara, Christopher and Carrie.
Cora was unabashedly proud of her children and five grandchildren. She traveled often to see them and loved having the house filled to the brim with family. She taught her sons to cook and showed them how to be great parents to her grandchildren. She enjoyed sailing, snowmobiling, hiking, golf, playing bridge and 500.
She has left many lasting marks on our world including her dedicated work on the Ice Age Trail. She served the organization as Coordinator of the Indianhead Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance for 5 years and on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for 6 years. Hike any segment in Polk and Burnett counties and share in her legacy. She was also active in the Polk County H.C.E. for many years.
Memorial services will be held at the Rowe Funeral Home in Frederic on Thursday, January 7, 2016 - visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Chaplain Greg Gilbert will be officiating.
