Obituary for Deloris R. Olson
Deloris R. Olson, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Home in St. Croix Falls, WI at the age of 92. She was born to Russell and Rosina (Ernst) Brown near Alberta, MN on March 18, 1924 and was baptized at the Methodist Church of Pepperton Township.
At the age of eight Deloris moved with her family to Frederic, WI. With such a large family, her seat for the entire trip to Frederic was on an apple crate in the back seat. Her family joined the Frederic Methodist Church and Deloris was confirmed there. She attended school and graduated from Frederic High School in 1942.
On September 23, 1944 she married Chester Olson of Cushing, WI at the Frederic Methodist Church. After their marriage and moving to the farm near Cushing, they joined the Atlas Methodist Church. She was an active member and proudly served for 29 years as the UMW President as well as other offices. Chester and Deloris enjoyed over 70 years of marriage before Chester passed away in 2015.
Deloris lived her life with pride and dignity. Over the years she worked at various jobs, but her real love was being a wife, mother, and grandmother and providing a beautiful home for her family. A home that was always filled the wonderful aromas of her delicious meals and baking. Her cookies were second to none and she was lovingly called "Grandma Cookie" by her grandkids, who loved to visit and stay with their grandparents on the farm. Friday for Deloris was always a special day, nothing got in the way of her weekly hair appointment, getting groceries, and having coffee with her sister and dear friends. Her wit and humor were unique and kept every conversation lively.
The family was blessed with three children, Sandy Fox of St. Croix Falls; Scott (Cheryl) of Cushing; and Cindy (Howard) Berenschot of Almena. Her beloved grandchildren, Heidi Kisler, Stacy McCurdy, Trent Fox, Mariah Gaffey, Ashleigh Olson, Jared Olson, Emily Norton, Howie Berenschot; sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild survive Deloris. Also surviving is her best friend and sister, Dorothy Miller of Luck, WI and many other special relatives and friends.
Her parents, Russell and Rosina Brown; brothers, Ernest, James, Lloyd and Harold Brown; sisters, Pearl Crandall and Ruby Bergquist; and son-in-law, Larry Fox, preceded Deloris in death.
We will be celebrating Deloris's life on Saturday, August 20th with a visitation from 10:00 until 11:00, and a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the Atlas United Methodist Church, 2110 295th Avenue, Luck, WI. Please join the family for fellowship following the service.
