Obituary for Donald L Corty
Donald Lawrence Corty, Grantsburg passed away on Wednesday, October 4,2006. He was 84 years old. Donald was born on April 4, 1922 in Frederic Wi. to Lawrence and Gina Corty. At a young age his parents passed away. Donald moved to Amery, to live with his Aunt. In his Senior year of highschool his grandfather became ill, and asked him for his help on his farm in Clam Falls. He graduated from Frederic High School and soon met his bride to be Merna E. Glaubitz. They enjoyed roller skating, going to out door movies, and dances. On August 26, 1943 they were united in marriage and remained in Clam Falls until 1947, at which time they purchased a dairy farm south of Grantsburg. After raising their seven children they retired, living on a couple of hobby farms in the area, which enabled them to raise beef cattle for their family. I think Donald enjoyed raising the black and white belted cattle most, as many people stopped on the road to ask him how he had gotten them to look like oreo cookies. Besides his love for farming, Donald worked part time as a property assessor, served on the boards of director for: Grantsburg township, Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative, Dairyland Power, and Burnett Dairy Cooperative. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, picking blue- berries, playing cards and ice fishing. Donald was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church serving on council and ushering for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister Dorothy, brother Vern and Son-in-law Robert Larson. Donald is survived by his wife of 63 years Merna, daughters Darlene (Gary) Corrier, Kathleen Larson, Jean (Jim) McAllister, Joan (Peter)Lauer; sons Dennis (Lana) Corty, Roger (Jane) Corty, and David Corty, twenty-two grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Don will be greatly missed by us all. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 7th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grantsburg. Donald was laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Grantsburg.
