Obituary for Donald M. Davidson
Donald Monroe Davidson passed away July 7, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Home in St. Croix Falls, WI.
Don was born February 3, 1925 at Frederic, WI to Monroe and Marie Davidson. He was the first born to this union. In years to follow, Doris, Rose Marie and Mary Ann were to be added to the family also.
He grew up on the family farm which was adjoining Big and Little Trade Lakes in Burnett County. From a young age he worked hard doing chores and field work on the farm. When he was 16 he took a job hauling milk to the creamery and became the support of his mother and sisters when they moved from the farm into Grantsburg. Don served in the Marine Corp. in World War II. He was proud to defend and protect our country. After the war was over, he came home and took a job in the Twin Cities driving streetcars and then city buses. It was there that he met and married Shirley Lois Fagerstrom. To this union three daughters were born Debra (Wayne) Olson, Mary Jane Davidson and Sue Ann Davidson. In 1960 he moved back home and established a trucking business hauling cattle and anything else he could get on the truck. He was also the go to guy for machinery and auto repairs and problems in the area. He could figure out how to fix or build just about anything. After selling his trucking business, he worked for Laketown Township until he retired. In his spare time he enjoyed his life-long hobby of fishing as well as hunting, camping, his dog, his horses and doing many things for and with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his father, Monroe Davidson; mother, Marie Graves; and sister, Doris Ott.
He leaves to grieve: daughters, Debra (Wayne) Olson, Mary Jane Davidson and Sue Ann Davidson; grandchildren, Lonnie (Donna) Olson, Shawn (Carrie) Olson, Toni (Matthew) Nord and Kori Jasper; great-grandchildren, Frannie Hillstrom, Brenna, Bailey and Britta Olson, Mariah and Jonathan Olson, Kendall and Savanna Nord; sisters, Rose Marie Williams and Mary Ann Lynch; half-brother, Franklin Baker; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
Don was much loved and respected by his family and will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held at Trade River Evangelical Free Church in Grantsburg, WI on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Dale Van Deusen will be officiating. Full Military Honors will be presented following the service.
