Obituary for Dorothy M. DesJardins

Dorothy M. DesJardins, age 89, of Britton, South Dakota died on Monday, December 14, 2009. Dorothy was born on November 13, 1920 in Dewey Township (Bashaw Valley) Burnett County, Wisconsin. She graduated from high school in Flint, Michigan and married Bernard DesJardins on August 16, 1940. In 1947 they moved from Flint, Michigan to Shell Lake, Wisconsin and operated TipTown Resort. The family moved from Shell Lake to Frederic in 1956. She worked at the Carlson Hardware store for many years. Dorothy was a long-time member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her four children: Jay (Virginia) of Leesburg, Florida, Dawn Freeberg (Kay Mack) of Britton, South Dakota, Dale (Jeanne) of Frederic, Wisconsin, and Jeff (Marilyn) of Shoreview, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben in 1996, four brothers and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rowe Funeral Home in Frederic, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until the service begins. Father Dennis Mullen will be officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Mary Lou Daeffler and soloist, Kordi Kurkowski. Pallbearers will be Jeff, Jay, Dale, Jason, Mark and Brian DesJardins and Mike Freeberg. Interment will be in St. Dominic’s Catholic Cemetery.
Rowe Funeral Home of Frederic, Wisconsin was entrusted with arrangements.
