Obituary for Edna Albertina Sorensen
Edna A. (Wicklund) Sorensen, 92, passed away on Christmas Day 2009 at the United Pioneer Home in Luck, WI after a short battle with cancer.
Edna was born on April 18, 1917, in Bottineau, North Dakota to Albert and Christina (Aronson) Wicklund. At the age of five she moved with her family to live on the Aronson family farm near Grantsburg, WI. She graduated eighth grade from the Alpha School. After she graduated she stayed at home to help care for her younger siblings. In her young adult years she worked as a housekeeper and attended the Minneapolis Vocational School of Practical Nursing. She worked for several years at a hospital in Hastings, MN before returning to her home in Grantsburg to care for her mother and continue her nursing career at the Grantsburg Hospital.
On April 7th, 1945 she was united in marriage to Axel Sorensen. Edna and Axel built their home and farm in Cushing, WI where they raised their two children, Robert and Karen. They lived on the farm until 1971 when they built a house nearby where Axel pursued his carpentry work and Edna returned to nursing as a Home Health Nurse. Edna spent the majority of her life caring for family, friends and strangers. Caring for people was in her heart.
After retirement they moved to Cushing where Edna spent many hours making quilts for her family, friends and church. She loved working outside in her garden and baking bread and cookies. After Axel's death in 2004 she continued to live on her own in Cushing until she recently became a resident of the United Pioneer Home in Luck.
