Obituary for Elaine C. Kern
Elaine C. Kern passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 28, 2017 at Lawson Manor in Luck, WI.  Elaine was born to Gustav and Emma (Bloom) Engstrom on November 30, 1927 in Superior, WI.  She attended and graduated from Superior Senior High School.  On August 31, 1948 she married the love of her life, Robert L. Kern and they resided in Duluth, MN.  They were blessed with four children and married for 62 years until Robert’s passing in 2010. 

Elaine believed that love of family was life's greatest blessing.  She was very proud of her family and the title of "Nanny" to her 9 grandchildren.  She loved spending time in the kitchen preparing food for her family, and was an accomplished baker.  Elaine served her community as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She was a trained x-ray technician and worked as a technician before starting a family and returned after her children were grown. 

She is survived by her children, David Kern of Siren, WI, Tom (Karen) Kern of Salt Lake City, UT, Terry (Renee) Kern of Albuquerque, NM, Kristine McClain of Peshtigo, WI; 9 grandchildren,Karey, Kasey, Kelley, Kodey, Mia, Andrew, Adam, Jennifer, John; 5 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-brothers, Bob, John, and Jim Klungness. 

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, mother, father, sister, and step-mother.  The family would like to thank the staff at Lawson Manor for their loving care for Mother. Her wishes were to be laid to rest next to her husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.
