Obituary for Eleanor B. Colton
Eleanor B. Colton, age 81, of Luck, Wisconsin passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at St. Croix Regional Medical Center.
Eleanor was born February 18, 1935 in southern Minnesota. She was the first of eight children born to Herman and Annette Mangelson. The family moved to northwestern Wisconsin and she graduated from Milltown High School in 1953, after which she moved to St. Paul, MN where she met Leslie Colton. They were married in 1955 and had 6 children. They later divorced and in 1964 she settled in Luck, WI. Eleanor cleaned houses, did factory work, and was nanny to grandchildren in Gonvick, MN. She also did home health care in Ladysmith, Lewis, and Luck.
For the last 10 years she enjoyed working on puzzles, watching game shows, playing dominoes with her friends at the Mapleview Apartments, and attending family events.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her father, Herman Mangelsen; mother, Annette (Karels) Mangelsen; brother, Albert Mangelsen; sister, Helen (Mangelsen) Otis; son, Kenneth Colton; and grandsons, Thomas Alexander and Joseph Colton.
Eleanor is survived by brothers, Andy (Geraldine) Mangelsen, John (Diana) Mangelsen, Lee (Carol) Mangelsen, Pete (Carol) Mangelsen; sister, Diane (Larry) Veenendall; son, Bruce Colton; daughters, Linda (Buckley) Howe, Susan (Tom) Seger, June Colton and Brenda Merrill; daughter-in-law, Feni Colton; grandchildren, Danny, Sara, Oliver, Wendy, Nick, Stephanie, Michelle, Annie, Amanda, David, Josh and Jake; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleanor will always be remembered for her quick wit, her love of music and nature, her poetry, her kind caring heart, her sense of humor, and her ability to pop out a song related to anything you say. "The reflection of mom's heart shines on the faces of all that have met her and the music of her soul resonates each time you hear the words, 'Yes, I've met Eleanor.'"
Funeral services will be held at Luck Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 1st – visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Eleanor will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in La Follette Township (take County Road X south from Hertel) at 1:15 p.m. Pallbearers will be David Merrill, Joshua Merrill, Jacob Merrill, Nick Lee, Michelle Leavens, Oliver Colton, Joseph Colton, Danny Hughes, Johnathon Van Pelt and Dillan Alexander.
After Eleanor is laid to rest, her family invites you to return for a Celebration of Life at the Luck Lions DBS Hall, 300 1st Street South, Luck, WI 54853, from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.
