Obituary for Elmer A. Berg
Elmer Alexander Berg, 88, of Luck,WI, passed away on April 29, at the United Pioneer Home after a sudden illness. He was born on September 5, 1918, to Anna and Oscar Berg, also of Luck. He was the oldest of 9 children. Elmer was confirmed at Laketown Lutheran Church and graduated from Luck High School, where he played basketball. In 1940, he married Inga Sorensen. They were married for 58 years, until her death in 1999. Together they had 6 children, 1 of whom, Bonnie Lou, died at birth. Elmer and Inga farmed in Laketown throughout their lives together, permanently retiring to Luck in 1998. Elmer had many interests, including playing the banjo and dancing, in his young adult years. He loved outdoor activities, especially hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He was a catcher and 2nd baseman for the Cushing Tigers baseball team, and played on many horseshoe, bowling and softball teams. During his entire 88 years, he was an active member of Laketown Lutheran Church, serving on many committees, as well as on the Church council. Elmer is survived by his 5 children: Ron and wife, Nancy, of Signal Mountain, TN, Jim and wife, Karen, of Baudette, MN, Julianne Golden and husband, Phil, of Winston-Salem, NC, Kathy Goneau and husband, Brant, of Luck, WI, Kelly Schwartz, and husband, Jim, of Eau Claire, WI; grandchildren Matraca Berg, Lois Akins, Eric Berg, Michael Berg, Terry Berg, Amy Bennett, Michelle Henry, Kerry Berg, Greg Berg, J.P. Swanson, Justin Swanson, Joshua Golden, Hannah Goneau, Sarah Goneau, Nate Schwartz, Natalie Schwartz; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He will be remembered and missed by countless relatives, friends, and neighbors. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2:00 p.m., at First Lutheran Church in Cushing,WI. Visitation is Wednesday from 5-7 PM at the Rowe Funeral Home in Luck.
