Obituary for Emmett Blaine Nelson
Emmett Blaine Nelson, 77, of Luck, WI died peacefully at the United Pioneer Home on Friday, January 14, 2011.
Emmett was born April 19, 1933 in Branstad, WI to Emil and Irene Nelson. Emmett was one of 9 children growing up in the Branstad area. Emmett enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 at age 17. He spent 22 months serving in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953. On April 3, 1954 he married Jerry (Sorenson) and to this union 5 children were born, Duane, Roxane, Penny, Pamela and Darrel. Emmett and Jerry owned and operated the Standard Station in Frederic for a year and then Emmett began driving truck until his retirement from Shafer Contracting in 1996. After retiring Emmett moved to Arizona by his brother, Edler to escape the cold weather. He spent 5 years there, returning to Wisconsin in 2001 after suffering two strokes. Emmett enjoyed music and dancing and was an avid Nascar fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Emmett was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jerry; 3 brothers, Edler, Glendon and Elmo; and 2 sisters, Gwenda Peterson and Gloria Fordyce.
Emmett is survived by his children, Duane (Silvia) of Barron, Roxane (Jacques) Ogilvie, Penny (Jack) Holm, Pam (Don) Hicks, and Darrel – all of Luck; his grandchildren, Vickie (MJ), Chad (Elaine), Dustin (Amanda) and Michael (Brittney); six great-grandchildren, Jason, Danielle, Darian, Casey, Tatiyana and Keiko; brother, Eldon; sisters, Elaine Swenson, Ilene Wood; and many, many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rowe Funeral Home in Luck with Speaker, Larry Peterson officiating. Visitation will be for 1/2 hour before the service at the funeral Home in Luck.
