Obituary for Esther L. Mohnsen
Esther Mohnsen passed away on April 13, 2015 at the United Pioneer home in Luck, WI at the age of 99 years, 18 days.
Esther Lorraine Shafer was born on March 26, 1916 to Merle Eva (McWilliams) Shafer and William Aaron Shafer in Douglas, Alaska. She graduated from Douglas High School.
She married Bennie Mohs in 1937 in Juneau, Alaska. To this union 4 children were born: Ernest, Shirley, Melvin and Velma. They left Alaska in 1940 and came to Wisconsin in 1946 from Montana.
Esther was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church of Bone Lake in 1954.
She married Johannes L. Mohnsen Nov. 26, 1963. Esther and Johannes farmed together, hunted and did lots of fishing in the 20 years of their happy life together.
Esther married Ervin Mickelson April 18, 1984. They did lots of traveling and enjoyed their families and friends. Esther enjoyed Ervins children as if they were her own.
Esther is survived by her 3 children, Ernest and wife Rita Mohs of Illilois, Shirley Martin of Comstock, WI and Melvin and wife Marilyn Mohs of Illinois. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Scott and wife Anna Martin of Frederic, WI, Matthew Martin of Comstock, WI, Sarah and husband Mike Peterson of Frederic, Jackie and husband Garrett Williams of IL, Kimberly and husband Ron Miller of TN, Paula and husband Leo Maslow of Siren. Esther is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren
She is preceded in death by daughter, Velma Podabinski and son-in-law, Harvey Martin; husbands, Bennie Mohs, Johannes Mohnsen and Ervin Mickelson; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Shafer; 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held at the Rowe Funeral Home in Luck on Friday, April 17th visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Arveda Freddie Kirk officiating. Esther will be laid to rest at Bone Lake Cemetery following the service.
