Obituary for Ethel C. Pederson
Ethel Pederson, long-time resident of Frederic and recently of Comforts of Home assisted living in Hudson, died on September 13, 2007. She was born August 1, 1917, in Lewis, WI, to Charles and Ida Erickson, and in 1935 graduated from Frederic High School. She attended Polk County Teachers’ College and later Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis where she met Clarence Pederson. They married in 1943, and moved to Halstad, MN, where the couple operated a dairy farm until 1958, when they returned to Ethel’s family farm near Lewis with their seven children. Religion was very important in Ethel’s life. She was a life-long Bible scholar and she taught Bible classes for many years. An inspiration to everyone who knew her, Ethel was generous and selfless, and she was a “world-class mother” who cared for so many people throughout her life without complaint. Ethel loved music, played the piano and sang, and she had a special affection for animals, particularly her cat. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her brothers, Alvin (Ethel) and Merle Erickson; and her sister, Elna Erickson. She is survived by her sister, Leila Norlander of rural Osceola; her close cousin, Mary Johnson of Minneapolis; Merle’s wife, Amy of Long Beach, CA; and by her seven children, David (Trudy) Pederson, Philip (Kathy) Pederson, Ruth (Bruce) Thorstad, Esther (Judd) Bjorkman, Samuel (Cindy) Pederson, Miriam (Jack) JuVette, Timothy (Jan) Pederson; her 15 loving grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Frederic at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 21, 2007. Internment will be at the West Sweden Cemetery in West Sweden Township. Rowe Funeral Home of Frederic was entrusted with arrangements.
