Obituary for Eugene C. Melin
Eugene Charles Melin, age 53, of Cushing, WI passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2016.
Gene was born January 23, 1963 to Charles and Dorothy Melin of Grantsburg, WI. He attended the Oak Hill Grade School through 6th grade and graduated from Luck High School in 1981. He received a Machinist Technical Degree at WITC in Rice Lake in 1983. After graduating from WITC, Gene was employed as a machinist at Metal Products, Inc. He continued working for many years as a machinist until his health deteriorated.
Gene loved his yard, campfires, wildlife, traveling in his van, the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with family and friends. He was proud of his nieces and nephews and always enjoyed their company and their laughter. He was an inspiration to them of what you can do with the cards you are dealt. Gene had a very special place in his heart for his extended circle of friends in Cushing. He looked forward to those visits, laughter and good times every week.
Gene is preceded in death by his special friend, Rayette Alford and his two special labs, Cody and Lacey. He is survived by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Melin of Grantsburg, WI; siblings, Debra (Douglas) Kunze of Luck, WI, Barbara Melin of Cushing, WI, and Scott (Amanda) Melin of St. Croix Falls, WI; nephews, Dustin (Chelsie) Kunze of Bluffton, SC, and Brodie Kunze of Luck, WI; nieces, Brittney (Brody) Woltz of Luck, WI, Stephanie Melin and Samantha Melin of St. Croix Falls, WI; great-nephew, Dawson Kunze of Bluffton, SC; great-niece, Ashlynn Kunze of Bluffton, SC.
Gene lived with Muscular Dystrophy and tackled the everyday challenges that the disease presented him. His courage, hope, strength and contagious smile is truly an inspiration to all of us on how life should be lived.
A special thank you goes out to Tom Bean who always made Gene laugh and never left Gene's side as his best friend as he fought the battle courageously. The family would like to thank Merle Larson, Brad and Melody Sandstrom, David and Nate Melin and many others who helped Gene out over the past few years.
A private memorial service will be held with family at a later date. Gene will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery.
