Eva “Bennedsen” Hansen passed away Sunday afternoon, October 7th, 2018 in the care of family and friends at the United Pioneer Home in Luck, WI. She was 100 years old.
Eva Bennedsen was born in Kimballton, IA at her home on April 18, 1918. She grew up in the Kimballton area and after high school attended Grand View College, Des Moines for two years. Later she acquired a teaching degree at the Univerity of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. She was an elementary teacher until she married Carl George Hansen in 1942.
Shortly after they were married, Carl George was drafted into the Army Air Force where they lived together in Nashville, TN most of the time during his active duty. After his discharge, they moved back to the Luck area where they purchased a dairy farm. Eva resided on the farm until briefly after her husband’s death. She moved from the farm in 1989 to the Village of Luck, where she remained until her death at her final residency in the United Pioneer Home.
Upon her retirement from farming, she became involved with various volunteer activities such as quilt making, teachers aid, raising money for the needy, etc. She loved to travel and was impressed with nature’s beauty. Eva enjoyed playing scrabble with her club friends in Frederic very much. She loved people and socializing was an important part of her life.
Eva is survived by five children, Carl, Ervin, Paul, Norman, and Helga; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Magnus.
Memorial services will be held at West Denmark Lutheran Church on Tuesday, October 16th at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Linda Rozumalski will be officiating. A luncheon will be provided following the service.
