Obituary for Florence Magnuson
Florence C. Magnuson, formerly of Frederic, died Sept. 11, 2006, at the United Pioneer Home in Luck. She was 89 years old. Florence Skow was born Sept. 17, 1916, at Luck, to Henry and Emma (Johansen) Skow. She attended Spring Valley School and North Luck Church as a child. Florence's husband "Sig" died young leaving Florence and Dick at a very young age. Her heart was huge as she accepted the responsibility of parenting her cousin, Richard Paulsen’s daughters, Sherry (Gary) Gjonnes and Bonnie Romano from toddlers on. Florence was a gardener, a cook and generously supplied the south/west end of Frederic with her fruits of labor. She worked in the Frederic community for Dr. H.E. Witte, the Frederic Clinic and Nursing Home. She was a Sunday school teacher at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, a 4-H leader, a member of the homemakers, sewing club and American Legion. Florence’s legs failed her for the past 35 years; however, her determination to remain independent kept her in her home in Frederic. After a broken hip several years ago, she moved to Pioneer Home in Luck where she continued reading and doing word puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elmer (Florence) and Nels Skow; and her husband, Siguard Magnuson. She is survived by son, Richard (Shari); and grandson, Joel Magnuson; brother, Einer (Doris) Skow; sisters, Vivian Peterson, Evelyn Skow and Sylvia (Bob) Gjerning; and sister-in-law Christine Peterson.
