Obituary for Galan J. Tone
Galan John Tone was born on January 20, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN to Frank and Florence (Link) Tone. He died peacefully at home February 8, 2011 in Luck surrounded by his family. He attended Minneapolis South High School. Galan enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and served his country proudly for three years.
After his Honorable Discharge, Galan married Sylvia Mundt on August 2, 1958 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Glenwood City. They lived in Minneapolis for a short time, then moved to Glenwood City and started their family. They had four children: John, Richard, Thomas, and Susan. He was employed as a mechanic and worked for the City of Glenwood City for several years.
Galan is survived by his children, John of Waterbury, CT, Tom (Laurie) of Glenwood City and Sue (Kyle) Hubbard of Birchwood. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Heather (George) Wuorenma of Warrens, Mike Neibacher of New Richmond, and Katie and Matt Tone of Glenwood City. He is further survived by two great-granddaughters, Lillian and Sylvia Wuorenma of Warrens. Galan is also survived by his brother, Ronald of Forest Lake, MN, nieces and nephews.
Galan is also survived by his loving companion, Vi Banitt of Luck and her children, Lois (Jack) Christensen of Cushing, Clyde (Sarah) Banitt of North Carolina, Gary (Rose) Banitt of Germany and Sue (Joe) Schommer of Frederic. He is further survived by Vi’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, toddler son, Richard and siblings Lloyd, LeRoy, Jerry, Delores, Arlene, and Mary. He was a proud veteran and member of the Luck American Legion. He loved hunting, fishing, riding horses, wood working, watching wildlife in the yard, and the Minnesota Vikings.
A Gathering was held Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Rowe Funeral Home in Luck. At Galan’s request, there will not be a funeral or memorial service.
Services were entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home of Luck and the Northwest Wisconsin Cremation Center in Milltown.
