Gayland Jensen, age 86, of Luck, Wisconsin died Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
Gayland was born in Luck, Wisconsin on June 18, 1931. He lived in Luck and was a member of the Luck Lutheran Church his entire life where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. He attended both grade school and high school in Luck. Upon completion of an accounting course at the Minneapolis Business College, he accepted a job with Butternut Dairy Cooperative in Luck.
In January of 1952, he was drafted by the Army to serve a two-year term during the Korean War. He was sent to Camp Roberts, California where he received his basic training and then moved to a separations section that was processing separation papers for the first of the two-year draftees returning from Korea. In 1953, he was sent overseas to Germany to complete his two years of duty.
Upon separation from the service in February of 1954 he accepted a position at the Fidelity State Bank in Luck where he worked for 39 ½ years until he retired in June, 1993. While working at the bank he was made a Director to serve on the board and was also appointed to position of Cashier and Vice President. In June of 1957, he was elected to the Board of Directors at the United Pioneer Home where he served for 34 years. In April of 1954, he was elected to the Board of Directors of Luck Telephone Company and served as secretary until August 31, 2003.
He also served on the board of the Lake Commission for many years along with serving on other community groups. Gayland enjoyed golfing, fishing, and camping with his family. After the boys left home, Sylvia and Gayland enjoyed the many miles traveled with their motor home. After retiring they spent part of the winter in Arizona where they enjoyed the weather and golfing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie and Jens Jensen and sister, Ora Jayne (Nygren) Jensen.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sylvia; son, Thomas of Roseville, MN; son, Cary and wife Barb of Golden Valley, MN; beloved granddaughter, Danielle of Golden Valley, MN; step-son, Rodney of Long Lake, MN; sister, Carolyn Fassett of Shoreview, MN; nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Luck Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service.
