Obituary for Gerald Dennis Knauber
Gerald Dennis Knauber, 93, of Frederic, WI passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at his home.
Gerald was born February 23, 1924, Dennis Gerald Knauber, outside Frederic in Trade Lake to Arthur and Mynne (Reetz) Knauber on the family farm. Several of his sons and other family members now live on that same road his parents had their farmstead on, and this road is most commonly referred to by locals as "Knauber Lane".
Gerald graduated from Frederic High School in 1941 at the age of 17 after skipping a grade. He lettered in Agriculture in high school and was known as a perfectionist.
He met the love of his life, Ruth Johnson, at the roller skating rink in Frederic. They were united in marriage on March 24, 1957 at Georgetown Lutheran Church, and to this union were born one daughter and six sons. Gerald and Ruth raised their family on a small farm outside of Frederic that they bought in 1957. He farmed and shared this passion with his children and grandchildren before selling his cows after 44 years. He had a love for reading and was always a tinkerer. He could invent, build, and fix nearly anything. In the years since having cows, he has taken care of various animals including pigs, cats, dogs and chickens. Gerald was a man of few words, but showed his family love by always being there and willing to help in any way he could.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, Mynne and Arthur; brother, Dale; daughter, Kristine; and infant granddaughter Knauber.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Ardyce Knauber; his sons, Kenneth (Connie) of Frederic, Donald (Michelle) of Mountain Home, ID, Leonard (Wendy) of Frederic, Vernon (Denielle) of Frederic, David (Jennifer) of Coon Rapids, MN, and Paul Knauber of Frederic; his grandchildren, Beth (Chris) Bartlett, Mike Knauber, Shari (Jim) Chadwick, Tammira (Todd) Taylor, Lukas (Natasha) Knauber, Kristin (Clayton) Ealy, Bryan Knauber, Brenda Knauber, Joel Knauber, Heidi Knauber, Bradley Knauber, Jordan Siebenthal (Zach), Nathan Knauber, and Kyle Knauber; and eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Karli, Brett, Neela, Julia, Mason, Thomas, and Lane.
Memorial Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Trade Lake on Monday, March 6, 2017 – visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth Knauber, Donald Knauber, Leonard Knauber, Vernon Knauber, David Knauber and Paul Knauber.
