Obituary for Gerald W. Johnson
Gerald Wayne Johnson, Amery, died Dec. 7, 2006. He was 85 years old. was born Aug. 15, 1921, to Edmund and Susie (Fye) Johnson in Polk County. He lived for most of his life in Polk County within 15 miles of where he was born. Gerald (Jug) worked for a few years in Minneapolis, Minn., for the gas company. It was while he worked there that he met Harriet Noska who he married on Nov. 10, 1948. They were married for 31 years when Harriet passed away on Jan. 12, 1980. He farmed for many years and did so at one time where the courthouse used to be. He worked for the county highway department during the summer months heating the oil for blacktopping. He then quit to only farm. He bought his current farm in Fox Creek in 1958. He was a member of the Georgetown Lutheran Church, where he was a past council member and was also a project leader when his children were in 4-H. Gerald had been very active up until November of 2004, when his health started to decline. He was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and had to be on oxygen. He was doing quite well until this spring. He moved into the Riverbend Assisted Living in Amery and was there until the middle of October when he entered Willow Ridge Healthcare. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Susie Johnson; his wife, Harriet; an infant grandson, Michael Ross; brother, Roy Johnson; and sisters, Edna Bratrud and Hazel Hutton. He is survived by daughter, Mary Ann Ross and husband Tom; sons, Duane (Donna) Johnson and Eugene (Pattie) Johnson; grandchildren, Paula (Clem) Anderson, Joe Ross, Greg Johnson, Kevin (Jamie) Johnson, Cassie Johnson and Ryan and Connery Johnson; and sister, Ethyle Johnson of Colorado Springs. He is further survived by a brother-in-law, five sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and many friends and very special friend, Hazel Kromrey. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Georgetown Lutheran Church in Georgetown Township. Visitation was at the Rowe Funeral Home in Centuria.
