Obituary for Herman O. Schmidt
Herman O. Schmidt, 82, of Frederic, WI passed away Thursday, February 9th, 2017 at the Frederic Nursing and Rehabilitation Community Home.
Herman was born December 29th, 1934 to Oscar and Ella Schmidt in Lorain Township. He graduated from Frederic High School in 1952.
After being drafted in 1958 he entered the Army on December 1st, 1958 and served two years. A portion of that time he was stationed in Germany.
On October 28, 1961 he married Arleen Brown of Turtle Lake. A few years after their marriage they purchased the farm in Lorain Township from his parents. This would be where they would raise their four boys, Brad, Todd, Troy and Cory.
Herman worked on the iron ore boats on Lake Superior for Frasier Shipyards and also built silos for Lewis Silo, Co. Then in 1963 he started dairy farming where he grew up and farmed for over 30 years.
Herman enjoyed farming, hunting, looking for wildlife, history, reading and watching sporting events. Deer Season was his favorite time of year, as he was able to hunt with his brothers, sons, daughters-in-law, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and friends for many years.
He is survived by his four sons, Brad (Kelly) Schmidt, Todd (Sharon) Schmidt, Troy (Becky) Schmidt all of Frederic, WI and Cory (Katie) Schmidt of Poplar, WI; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five brothers and one sister, Billy Schmidt, Luella (Clifford) Amundson, Oscar (Beverly) Schmidt, Adolf (Elvira) Schmidt, Louie (Rita) Schmidt, and Henry (Gloria) Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Arleen.
Visitation will be held at the Rowe Funeral Home in Frederic on Wednesday, February 15th, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and the Memorial Service will be held at the Clam Falls Lutheran Church on Thursday, February 16th - visitation at church will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m.
