Obituary for Howard E. Knechtel
Howard Knechtel, 94, of Siren, Wisconsin passed away peacefully February 14, 2017 at the United Pioneer Nursing Home in Luck, Wisconsin where he had been surrounded by loving family and friends and very caring staff. He was born October 31, 1922 in Clam Falls, Wisconsin to William and Lucette "Sadie" G. (Heimbecker) Knechtel.
After attending school at Indian Creek, he joined the Army where he served from 1943 to 1946 in ammunitions aviation in the Philippines. Later he worked at Armours in South Saint Paul, MN.
Howard married Alice Anderson (Dodge) on May 4, 1957. They were married for 32 years.
Throughout his years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and old time dancing and spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 396 for over 60 years. He was loving, caring and always looked on the bright side of life. He will always be loved and greatly missed.
Howard is preceded in death by his wife, Alice; father; mother; two brothers, Stanley and George; sister, Gladys Mansfield; and two stepchildren, Bernelda and Brent. He is survived by three stepchildren; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held at Indian Creek American Legion Hall, Post 396 - 345th Avenue/County Road E and 25th Street, Frederic, WI 54837 on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor "Arveda" Freddie Kirk will be officiating. A time of gathering with the family will immediately follow the service.
