Obituary for Irma B. McKenzie Hill
Irma Bernice (nee Amundson) (McKenzie) Hill, 86, peacefully passed away at the United Pioneer Home in Luck, WI on Friday, December 12, 2014
Irma was born in New Richmond, WI on July 27, 1928 to Julius and Evelyn Amundson. They lived in New Richmond and Cedar Falls, WI and moved to Milltown when Irma was in the 8th grade, where she helped working the family farm. She graduated from Milltown in 1946. On March 22, 1947 she married Al McKenzie of Milltown. They later owned and operated the Half Moon Resort on Half Moon Lake for many years. In later years she worked at the St. Croix Health Center in New Richmond and retired there after 25 years. Even in retirement she continued to help others and cared for the elderly in their homes.
Irma was an avid dancer and could be found most Sunday afternoons at the Red Rooster where she kicked up her heels. She also enjoyed playing cards and games, going to the casino, traveling, but most of all she loved the time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lloyd Amundson of Prairie Farm; sister, Jane Amlee of St. Paul; grandson, Andy McKenzie of Chariton, IA; and granddaughter, Christy Tackitt of Des Moines, IA.
She is survived by children, Ranee Nielsen of Red Wing, MN, Star (Steven) Christensen of Danbury, Arlo (Connie) McKenzie of Chariton, IA, Faye (John) Riedner of Mondovi, and Judy Rice (Jerry Ihrig) of Balsam Lake. Irma was also the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
