Obituary for Joanne McKinstry
Joanne McKinstry, age 71, died peacefully and went home to God on February 23, 2017 after her lung cancer reoccurred. She was born on February 19, 1946 in New Richmond, Wisconsin, the daughter of Floyd and Mary Knutson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Apple River Community Church of Amery, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 p.m. Family interment will be held at a later date.
Joanne was married to Raymond Danielson in 1967 and they had a son and a daughter. On October 11th, 1980 she married her second husband, Thomas McKinstry, who had two daughters, which created a blended family of six. Throughout good times and bad times, Joanne and Tom recognized Christ as the head of their home. They prayed that God would guide them through any situation they were in and he would show them how to use it to help others.
Joanne had a great sense of humor, was an excellent listener and had a warm heart. God gave her the gift of compassion for others which was very apparent throughout her lifetime work at Wescap, Hazelden, the battered women's shelter and Polk County Child Protection Services. She retired in 2005 to take time to enjoy the things she loved, such as camping, canoeing, simply country life, nature watching, putting around with Tom on projects and spending time with family and friends. New babies were a wonder to her and she loved spending time with her twelve grandchildren. Her service dog, Buttons, was a great help to her and his antics entertained everyone.
Joanne had 43 years of sobriety and helped many others along their spiritual journeys. Her church family and friends were a constant source to strength and renewal as they held her up in prayer. She cherished the fellowship and prayers of many friends and relatives.
She is preceded in death by her father, Floyd Knutson; her mother, Mary Knutson; and her first husband, Raymond Danielson.
She is survived by her husband, Tom of St. Croix Falls; son, Mike Danielson of Amery; daughter, Becky (Jim) Otis of Amery; step-daughter, Lisa (Scott) Roberts of Luck; step-daughter, Lori (Mike) Green of Chetek; brother, Ed (Sue) Knutson of Hudson; twelve grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Canter Center of Western Wisconsin, Allina Hospice, Apple River Community Church, and the many family and friends for all their care, support and prayers throughout her journey home to God.
