John A Baker, 81, Frederic, WI passed away at his home August 2, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.
John was born February 6, 1937 at home in Sarona, WI near Shell Lake. He graduated from Roberts High School in 1955. John served in the United States Army from 1961 – 1962. He married Martha Josephson in St. Paul, MN on May 22, 1965. They moved to Ladysmith, WI to farm where they had 3 children. The family then moved to Frederic in April, 1979 where they have resided since. John worked for the Frederic Feedmill from the fall of 1979 until his retirement in 2002 though he continued to do the crop spraying in the summer until the business closed.
He spent retirement camping and fishing with his family and friends and spending whatever time he could with his grandchildren and most recently a great-grandson. He enjoyed his workshop making many wood projects for those he knew and of course special projects that the grandchildren and others would ask for. He also spent time remodeling their old farmhouse. He was an avid reader and enjoyed all books by Louis L’Amour which he read many times over. He was never a person to sit idle for very long.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; daughters, Lynn (Bill) Borges, of Deerfield Beach, FL, Debra (Steve) Placek of Wautoma, WI; son, Dean (Shari) Baker of Floodwood, MN; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Steward and Beverly Darnell; brothers, Bernard (Nancy) Baker, Loren (Joyce) Baker; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
