Obituary for John A. Madden
CELEBRATION OF LIFE TO BEGIN AT 12 NOON.

John Albert Madden passed away at his home in Frederic, WI, on November 28, 2021, at the age of 74.

John was a 1965 graduate of Minneapolis Edison High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, 1966 – 1968, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam.

On August 22, 1969, John married Barbara Hyvare and raised two sons, Kevin and Ryan.

John’s career included being a printer, a Manufacturing Supervisor for the State of Minnesota Corrections system, and a restaurant owner.

In 2005 he opened Madden’s Steakhouse in Siren, WI, and ran it until it closed in 2010. He was the “Host with the Most” and loved to visit with his guests. He said that if he could get the dining room laughing, then everyone went away happy, even if things went wrong.

John was an avid golfer and played as often as he could until his health declined. John also enjoyed snowmobiling and was a past president of the Snow Neighbors of West Sweden Snowmobile Club.

His greatest joy in life were his grandchildren. They brought him so much happiness and laughter. His newest granddaughter, Piper, was born a week before he died. He got to meet and hold her on Thanksgiving.

John was known for his sense of humor and quick wit. He had nicknames for everyone. Some funny, some a poke, but they always fit the person and if he gave you a nickname, you knew he thought a lot about you.

John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elaine Madden and a brother, James Madden.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Kevin Madden; son, Ryan Madden (Christina); grandchildren, Jacob Jones, Savannah Madden, Abigail Madden, Piper Madden; and great granddaughter, Ezmae Jones. He is also survived by a brother, Gerald Madden of Sunrise, MN.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 8 at The Lodge at Crooked Lake in Siren, WI from Noon to 4 p.m. Military Honors will be presented at 1:30 p.m.

You are invited to leave condolences, memories and photos at www.rowefh.com .  Arrangements are entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home in Frederic, 715-327-4475 and the Northwest Wisconsin Cremation Center in Milltown, www.wicremationcenter.com .
