Obituary for John E. Mangelsen
John Ernest Mangelsen, 73, of Indian Creek, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 after battling chronic health conditions for many years.

John was born in his home on January 21, 1944 in LaFollette township to Herman and Annette Mangelsen. He was confirmed at Georgetown Lutheran Church. He graduated from Unity High School in 1962. After graduating he worked at the Bone Lake Creamery until he was hired by Hines Brothers Masonry in Richfield, MN. It is there that he began his brick laying career. In 1972 he bought a farm in Wisconsin and yet continued to work as a brick layer in Minnesota. Also, for a period of time, he co-owned and operated Mangelsen Brothers Masonry (also known as Lip and Nose) in Wisconsin with his brother Lee.

In 1964 John married Diana Johnson. John was a loving husband and father to his children. When he was young he could be found playing baseball on leagues and with his siblings. He was a very good pitcher. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting turkeys, ducks and deer. John has his deer horns mounted proudly in his "man cave". John liked International Tractors and won several tractor pull competitions. He was an excellent mason and was very proud and precise with his work. He designed and completed two personal fireplaces in his home. One was done Diana style and the other was John's style. Sports were an important part of his life. He was a diehard Packer, Brewer and Nascar fan. He enjoyed watching his children competing in sports events and his grandchildren playing hockey. He was a member of the Clam Falls Lutheran Church and often commented on looking forward to the day he would be pain free and meet God in heaven.

John's living family members are his wife, Diana; daughter, Cari (Joe) Loos of Rochester, MN; son, Bobby of Owatonna, MN; grandchildren, Shantel and Grayson Loos, Lacy (Joel) Klink; great-grandson, Knox Klink; siblings, Andy (Geraldine), Lee (Carol) , Pete (Carol), Diane (Larry) Veenendahl; and brother-in-law, Lyle Otis.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Annette Mangelsen; his brother, Al; and his sisters, Eleanor Colton and Helen Otis.

John was known for his sense of humor, commitment to family, work ethic, and at times stubbornness. His family will miss seeing his smile, hearing his jokes, and receiving his hugs and I love yous.
