Kathleen V. Simonsen was 94 years old when she passed away in a caring and loving assisted living facility in Frederic, WI - Traditions of Home.
She grew up near Clam Falls, WI on her parents’ farm where she worked hard helping her family along with her 3 brothers. After graduating from Frederic High School, she worked making bullets for the war effort at New Brighton, MN.
On October 7th, 1944 she married Bernie Nels Simonsen. They met roller skating in Siren. They were happily married for 62 years raising 4 children on their turkey farm where they sold hatching eggs for 35 years. Kathleen was an important part of the farming enterprise. She took classes to enable her to keep charge of all the bookkeeping of the operation. When Bernie was laid up after back surgery, she took over the operation until he recovered.
Kathleen was known for her excellent cooking skills. She also canned and froze a great deal of produce from her gardens. She also enjoyed picking a variety of berries and no one could fill the ice cream buckets with as much speed as she did. Kathleen enjoyed bowling and golfing and excelled at both, and had countless trophies to prove it. She also got a hole-in-one at the Luck Golf Course.
It was a busy farm life, but Bernie and Kathleen made time to take the kids on trips out west and to Alaska. Bernie and Kathleen traveled extensively in the United States, Europe and Canada and enjoyed many things together including spending winters in Laughlin, Nevada after retiring.
She had a very sweet spirit that will be greatly missed by all the lives she has touched.
