Obituary for Kenneth M. Java
Kenneth Marvin Java, 80, of Frederic, WI passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Frederic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with family by his side.
Ken was born June 30, 1934 to Harold and Frances (Proffit) Java. He graduated from Frederic High School in 1952. On January 30, 1954 Ken married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Bergman. To this union five children were born. After Dorothy passed away from cancer in 1989, he married Sonja Christian on May 19, 1990.
While in high school Ken pumped gas at Stubs garage and worked at the Frederic Movie Hall running the movie projector and cleaning up after the shows. After high school he began fixing cars and worked at Hensson Garage in Luck and then to the Ford dealership in Grantsburg. Ken worked or Dealers Remanufacturing in the Twin Cities for many years before going back to Grantsburg to work at Fielder Ford until his retirement.
After retirement Ken donated much of his time to the Frederic Historical Society and was instrumental in opening the Frederic Depot. In 2004 Ken was named Frederics Volunteer of the Year.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; daughters, Marcia Anderson and Beverly Brunberg; siblings, Walter Java, Daniel Java, Larry Java and Cora (Gary) Peterson.
He is survived by wife, Sonja; children, Mike (Shelley) Java, Ruth (Duane) Picknell, Mark (Tammy) Java; step-children, Steven (Deb) Christian, Doyle (Julie) Christian, and Sue (Paul) Hedlund; son-in-law, Jon Anderson; siblings, Bill (Barb) Java, Bruce (Kathy) Java, and Audrey (Ed) Kasleau; brother-in-law, Don (Pat) Bergman; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Lyle) Burr, Mary Java, Shirley Kongshaug, and Eileen Wickstrom; 12 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.
Memorial services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 421 S. Russell Street, Grantsburg, WI 54840 on Saturday, November 1st at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the Rowe Funeral Home in Frederic, WI on Friday, October 31st from 4 to 7:00 p.m. and again one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Rev. Jay Ticknor will be officiating.
