Obituary for LeRoy G. Hedberg
LeRoy Gene Hedberg, 85, of Cushing, WI, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at Burnett Medical Center’s Continuing Care Center in Grantsburg, WI, surrounded by family.
LeRoy was born October 23, 1927, in Grantsburg, WI, to Hildor and Minnie (Johnson) Hedberg. He attended Grantsburg-area schools through eighth grade. On July 2, 1949, he married Marlys Johnson in Pine City, MN. They lived near Grantsburg until their move to Cushing in 1960.
LeRoy worked as a truck driver, mechanic and dairy milk tester. He was a long-time member of Laketown Lutheran and active in the Cushing Commercial Club. He enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, cheering on the Packers, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlys; eight children, Rayna (Paul) Delaney of Pharr, TX, Romey (Rick) Nelson of Grantsburg, WI, Renell (Tom Sjoquist) Pagel of Dalbo, MN, RoAnn (Kenneth) Goor of Henriette, MN, Ronald Hedberg of Burnsville, MN, Rachel Hedberg of Osceola, WI, Robyn (James) Austin of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Raylene (Steven) Swanson of Alpha, WI; 11 grandchildren, Eric Nelson, Caryn, Matthew (Kristina) and Beth (Anders Hopkins) Chalstrom, Timothy (Tawnie Whaley) and Travis Goor, David (Sara Grauvilardell) Hedberg, Zachary (Liana Dietrich) Hedberg, Carter Austin, Tony Soderquist and Ashley Swanson; four great-grandchildren, Anthony Singleton, Tyler and Tyson Goor, and Nash Chalstrom; seven step-grandchildren, Dawn Johnson, James Nelson, Joshua, James and Jesse Swanson, Casey and Clayton Austin; one sister, Gwen Olson of North Branch, MN; three brothers, Hartley (Alice) Hedberg of Grantsburg, WI, Ray (Barbara) Hedberg of Spring Lake Park, MN, and Charles (Sally) Hedberg of St. Louis, MO; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Gladys McLain, Betty Jarchow and Audrey Wedin; one brother, Dudley Hedberg; three infant children; and a grandson, Bryan Chalstrom.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Lutheran Church in Cushing, WI on Saturday, June 1 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Rowe Funeral Home in Luck on Friday, May 31 from 5 to 8 p.m.
