Obituary for Leona L. Larson
Leona Lillian Larson, age 89, of Frederic, WI passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Frederic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Leona was born on March 6, 1925 in Stanberry, WI to John and Gertrude Losey. Leona grew up in Stanberry and Hayward, WI and graduated from Hayward High School in 1943.
She was the youngest of four children and this is where she met her husband, Kenneth. Leona waited for him to return from WWII and they married on January 20, 1946 in Hayward and lived there until 1950. To this union three children were born Janice, Terry and Yvonne.
Leona worked at the AP grocery store until their move to Tucson, AZ in 1950. In 1952 they returned to Hayward and then from there to Frederic in 1954.
Leona and Ken worked together at the Standard Oil Station (where the wash house stands now). Following that she worked for Frederic School, the Inter-County Leader and Luck Manufacturing until she started her own catering business in 1980.
In 1981, Leona opened the Corner Cupboard Deli (now Beans Country Griddle) with the late Joan Simpson. In 1981, her daughter and son-in-law Vonnie and Steve took over half the business when Joan left. She continued working there until her retirement in 1995.
Leona loved to travel. She and Ken enjoyed many trips with her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Roger including Spain, Italy, Mexican cruise and numerous cities throughout the U.S.
She was an active member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Frederic. She was always willing to help out in any capacity, especially in the kitchen.
Leona and Ken both enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing cards, where they made many new friends in the area.
Leona lived in her own home until 2002. From there she moved to the Sunrise Apartments and in 2009 made the move to the Frederic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center until her passing this year.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; parents, John and Gertrude Losey; brother, Warren Losey; and sister, Viola Risik.
Leona is survived by daughters, Janice Nelson and Vonnie Anderson and son, Terry Larson; sister, Genevieve Morrison; 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Frederic, WI on September 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
An online guestbook is available at www.rowefh.com or www.wicremationcenter.com . Arrangements have been entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home, 715-472-2444 and the Northwest Wisconsin Cremation Center in Milltown, 715-825-5550.
