Obituary for Lillian D. Madsen
On August 20, 1912, in Colby, WI, Lillian Dorthea Kopecky was born to James and Catherine Kopecky, the youngest of six children. Soon afterwards her father passed away so the family moved to Clam Falls to be nearer relatives. They lived there for many years, eventually moving to the Village of Frederic where Lillian graduated from high school. Lillian attended Polk County Normal in St. Croix Falls and earned her teaching certificate. She loved teaching, especially grades 5-8, and she cared deeply for all of her students. Lillian taught in Clam Falls, North Star, Sterling and Eureka and Oak Hill. While at the North Star School, Lillian met Lowell Madsen from Luck. In September of 1944, when Lowell was home on leave from the U.S. Navy, they were married in Minneapolis. The marriage lasted 57 years until Lowell’s death in October of 2001. Lowell worked at the Fidelity State Bank in Luck, and Lillian was a full-time housewife and mother. She was very involved in activities at Luck Lutheran Church and was a long-time member of the choir. Lillian was devoted to her family and she had a deep, yet simple faith in her Lord. Lillian had been a resident of the United Pioneer Home in Luck. She died peacefully on March 27th at the St. Croix Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Gale, and son-in-law, David; sisters-in-law, Elaine Madsen (Osceola) and Laura Sumpter (Hudson); nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Rowe Funeral Home in Luck, WI. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 2, from 4-7:00 p.m. also at Rowe Funeral Home in Luck. Visitation will again be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Rowe Funeral Home of Luck, Wisconsin, was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
