Obituary for Margie D. Ryan
Margie Delores Ryan (Johnson) was born on July 9th, 1928 in Frederic, Wisconsin to Albin and Rose (Haumant) Johnson. Margie, along with her 11 brothers and sisters, grew up in Trade Lake Township in Burnett County. Margie often spoke fondly of her modest upbringing, where she learned the value of hard work and the importance of family. Among Margies warm memories were the house parties her parents hosted. Margie and her sisters, cousins, uncles and aunts relatives would dance to her fathers cornet, guitar, banjo and fiddle. Margie attended primary schools at Spirit Lake, Bass Lake, Round Lake, and Trade Lake and later attended Frederic High School. Social studies was her favorite subject. After high school she lived with an aunt in Duluth, MN and worked briefly for two employers. She later worked as a nanny in Minneapolis. She also served stints at the Theatre and Paris Cafes in Frederic.
On February 28th, 1949 Margie married James Ryan of Grantsburg, Wisconsin at St. Dominics Catholic Church where they became life-long members. Margie and Jim settled in Frederic and had six sons, Stewart, Timothy, John, Greg, Jeff and Joel. After marriage Margie was employed at Duncan Yo-yo in Luck, Wisconsin and was also a seasonal employee at Stokely Van Camps in Frederic. Whether she was working a part-time job or helping on the farm, Margies focus and dedication was always to her home and family. Although Jim and her sons did most of the farm work, no one could milk a cow (by hand) faster than Margie. In fact, the cows were always milked by hand until three of the sons had gone off to college.
After her youngest sons started grade school, Margie was hired by the Frederic School District as a cook where she provided over two decades of faithful and loyal service until retirement. Hundreds of students enjoyed Margies warm smile, gentle kindness, and her school lunch bread (made from scratch).
In 1997 Margie and Jim sold their home in the country and moved to Frederic. Both Margie and Jim enjoyed their retirement by traveling extensively, and visiting and hosting relatives and friends and their grown-up children. Margie and Jim reveled in the successes of their children and grandchildren. After being married to Margie for over 60 years, Jim passed away in 2009. Margies remaining years were spent as a resident of the village of Frederic until her passing on August 1st, 2015.
Blessed are those who have died in the Lord; May they rest from their labors, for their good deeds go with them.
