Obituary for Marguerite C. Walsten
Marguerite Constance Everson Johnson Walsten was born July 23, 1922 in Stoughton, WI. She was the daughter of Rev. James Christian Everson and Olga Sophia (Thorpe) Everson. She attended schools in Minnesota and Wisconsin and graduated from Luck High School in 1939. She got her first job at the age of 16 in Madison as a nanny and then as a secretary in a real estate office. She was married to Maxwell Arnold Johnson for 37 years and was the vice president of Maxwells restaurant supply business for many years. She had one daughter, Maxine Louise Johnson, and went to work as a key punch at Giesholt Machine Factory and later for IBM after Maxine started school.
After Maxwells death, Marguerite moved back to Luck to be near family. She was married to C. Gorden Walsten of Cushing for 23 years and they enjoyed many trips across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico together.
Marguerite was a talented artist who won several county and state fair ribbons for her paintings, quilts, ceramics, knitting and sewing items. Her favorite submission was an authentic, Norwegian costume which she sewed by hand and which included a beaded cap, inset and an embroidered vest. She was also a musician and spent many years singing in the church choir, on the radio and acting in several plays.
