Obituary for Marianne Thiel Battig
Marianne Battig (Thiel) was born Dec. 2, 1932, in Minneapolis at St. Mary’s Hospital.
She was proceeded in death by parents Dr. George and Inez Thiel and her husband Marshall.
She is survived by her son B.J. Battig (Kay) of Hudson and daughter Suzanne (Jason) of Cumberland.
Marianne attended University of Minnesota High School and after graduation attended the Carlton College, Northfield, MN. After a year she realized she wanted to major in Interior Design and returned to the University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus. In addition to meeting her husband, she made many lifetime friends at the U of M. After graduating she worked for Northern States Power doing kitchen design and residential lighting. After their son B.J. was born they moved to Frederic Wisconsin to a 100-year-old home with lakeshore on Pine Lake. Her daughter Suzanne was born at the old Frederic Hospital.
Several years later they purchased and operated the Lawson Greenhouses for many years in Frederic and Luck, which they later sold to Jim and Jan Oeffler. After selling the business they moved into the town of Frederic where Marianne was active in the St. Luke’s Methodist church where she sang for over 40 years in the choir. She volunteered and worked at the Frederic Library, was a member of the Frederic Hospital Auxiliary, the High School Scholarship Committee, Twentieth Century Club and the Masters of the Universe Bridge Club. After Marshall died, she spent 30 years in the hospitality industry working at the Stillwater Inn and The Lodge at Crooked Lake. Marianne loved to read, travel, and go sailing. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorials are preferred to the Faith’s Lodge, Family Pathways Frederic Food Shelf, Community Referral Agency of Polk County and St. Luke’s Methodist Church.
An interment will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Frederic on Wednesday September 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. To share stories and celebrate a life well-lived, there will be a casual gathering of friends and family on Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Lodge at Crooked Lake in Siren, Wisconsin.
