Mary (Ellen) Eleanor Bertz Ruhn, 77 of Frederic, WI joined her Heavenly Father in Heaven on Wednesday, August 15th at the Frederic Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center surrounded in love with family by her side. Mary Ellen passed away due to complications related to heart disease.
Mary Ellen was born November 27, 1940 in Loyal, WI to Edward and Florence Bertz. She graduated in 1958 from Loyal High School. After high school Mary Ellen attended Eau Claire Beauty College and received her Beauty Operator Technical Certificate to pursue a career in hairdressing. She purchased her first salon in Neillsville, WI in 1962. In 1972, she purchased her second salon in Frederic, WI where she served the community until her retirement in December of 2016.
On August 4, 1973 Mary Ellen married Larry Ruhn and raised two children, Eugene Ruhn and Janelle Ruhn. They built their own house together west of Frederic, WI. She also was a proud grandmother of Ava Ruhn-Pouliot.
Mary Ellen is best known for her hairdressing, in particular perms, roller sets and classic haircuts. She was a master craftsman of the lost art of classic styling. She enjoyed her community involvement, church, being a caregiver and always had time to listen and help someone in need. She also was a talented seamstress, knitter and singer.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Ruhn; parents, Edward and Florence Bertz; siblings, Carol Carpenter, Geny St. Onge, Raymond Bertz, Dorothy Bertz, and Lucille Bertz.
She is survived by her children, Eugene Ruhn and Janelle Ruhn; granddaughter, Ava Ruhn-Pouliot; siblings, Edward Bertz, Jack (Jane) Bertz, Connie Cooper and Tom Bertz; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, August 29th with visitation at 10 a.m. and Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Frederic, WI.
