Obituary for Maxine "Mickey" Lois Vilstrup

Maxine Lois Vilstrup of Luck, WI passed away peacefully on February 22, 2023 at Lawson Manor Assisted Living where she resided for a year and a half.

Mickey was born at home on January 24, 1930 to Paul and Esther Olson, and had one older sister Elaine. She was a graduate of Grantsburg High School in 1947, and got her first job at Luck Bank where she met the love of her life Bob Vilstrup after selling him some trap tags. They were married on August 22, 1953 and two years later in 1955 they had a baby boy, Tom.

Mickey was a devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed gardening, reading books, puzzles, and watching the Minnesota Twins Baseball team. She also loved the wildlife that surrounded her in the many years of living in the country. She especially loved to watch the birds that came to her feeders, the cardinal being her favorite. She was also known to chase away the bears that would try to get to the feeders and kept her broom nearby when needed. She was an active member at Bone Lake Lutheran Church for over sixty years, the Bone Lake Township Treasurer for ten years, and the Luck School District Bookkeeper for twenty years until her retirement in 1992. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always made sure to have chocolate candy kisses in the candy dish for them to enjoy.

Mickey was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Bob; her parents; her sister, Elaine; brother-in-law’s, Vic Swanson, Lester Madsen, and Bernie Schroder; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dick and Donna Vilstrup; and many other relatives and friends who went before her.

She is survived by her loving son, Tom; daughter-in-law, Lori Vilstrup; her grandchildren, Kelly (Mark) DeMoe, Bryan (Heather) Vilstrup, and Shannon (Isaac) Helmer; her great-grandchildren, Emily, Morgan, Jackson, and Riley DeMoe, Bennett and Hallie Vilstrup, and Mara and Rory Helmer. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Polly Vilstrup; sister-in-law, Mary Schroder; and many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

We would like to thank the Caregivers at Lawson Manor for being so kind to Mickey, she enjoyed all of you. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Bone Lake Lutheran Church (Bone Lake Lutheran Church, 1101 255th Ave., Luck, WI 54853).
