Obituary for Melvina F. Washbon

Melvina F. Washbon, 90, of Frederic, WI passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015 at her residence.

Melvina was born at Falun, WI on March 8, 1925. She attended Wood Creek and Mud Hen Lake schools in her grade school years. She attended high school at Siren High School for 2 years and at Frederic High for 2 years graduating in May, 1943 from Frederic. After her high school years she attended Polk County Teachers College in St. Croix Falls.

She was confirmed as an adult at West Denmark Lutheran Church the 28th day of May, 1963 by Rev. Harold Petersen. She was united in marriage to Vernon Richard Petersen October 31, 1943. To this union the following children were born, Gary J. Petersen, Janice M. Petersen, Bruce A. Petersen and Betty A. Petersen.

She was in 16 years of nursing certified both in Wisconsin and Minnesota. She dearly loved her job of nursing, and in her 16 years took care of and helped many, many people that were in her care. She worked 8 years at the United Pioneer Home in Luck and her other years at Central Care Center in Columbia Heights, MN.

Her hobbies were collecting blue and white items, doll collection, black folk art items, had a large shoe collection and loved old items and antiques. She loved going to auctions. She also loved cake decorating and candy making, and she made many decorated cakes for many occasions. She loved music and played by ear on the organ and loved country western music and the hymns.

She loved life suffered much in her lifetime but always came back and had a good word for everyone and a great smile! But also she had many good things in her lifetime happen to her she was so very proud the day she had her very first grandchild, although she loved all her grandchildren individually and was always so very proud of all their achievements and accomplishments. She remarked, now I am a grandmother.

It was very traumatic for her to lose her first grandchild, Jerry to cancer and the loss of her beloved sisters, Violet and Virginia whom she never got over losing. Her religion and deep faith helped her so many times over the rough spots in life God is my co-pilot, I will never walk alone I will never have to do it alone as he is by my side every day and always.

She was united in marriage to Les Washbon in October, 1983 at Alma, WI. She had a way of being close to her people and friends and once you met her you never forgot her. She lived in the hearts of everyone she was happiest when she was doing things for her family and friends. Am I my brothers keeper exemplified her.

She is preceded by her parents, sisters, twin infant brothers, husbands, Vernon Petersen and Les Washbon, and grandson.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Marissa) Petersen, Janice Schaefer, Bruce Petersen, Betty (Jerry) Crandell; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and sister, Marlys Hedberg.

Visitation will be held at the Rowe Funeral Home in Frederic on Thursday, September 10 from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at West Denmark Lutheran Church, west of Luck on Friday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. with one hour visitation prior to this service.
