Michael John Martin Sr., of Centuria, WI, passed away on November 5, 2017, at the age of 95.
Michael was born in Czechoslovakia on November 21, 1921. He came to the United States with his parents when he was 18 months old. He grew up in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and participated in several key battles including the taking of the Remagen Bridge. Michael earned several medals during his time of service including a Purple Heart for being wounded by a sniper. After 6 years in the Army, Michael studied for and became a machinist. He worked for the Waterous Company in St. Paul, MN for 35 years before retiring in 1984.
Michael is preceded in death by his wife, Rhea. He is survived by his son, Chad Martin and his fiancé Erin Harvieux; daughter, Sandra Marcin; daughter, Anita Marcin; son, Michael Martin Jr. and his wife, Diane; son, Thomas Martin; son, Phillip Martin and his wife, Pam; daughter, Pattie Twohy-Greene and her husband, David; 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
A Visitation and Service will be held at the Rowe Funeral Home in Luck, WI on Monday, November 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Father Joseph Madanu will be officiating. Michael will be laid to rest next to his wife, Rhea at St. Dominic’s Catholic Cemetery in Frederic following the service.
