Obituary for Mildred "Millie" E. Nelson
Mildred "Millie" Nelson of Luck, WI passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on Tuesday, October 6th, 2015.
Mildred Ellen Stewart was born in Tigerton, Wisconsin to James and Florence Stewart on May 4th, 1924. Millie graduated from Wittenberg High School in 1942 and joined the Navy during WWII; training in New York and serving in Oakland, California where she met Roger Nelson, who was also serving in the Navy. They were married in Oakland, California on July 7th, 1945 and married again at the Church of St. Kevin in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 22nd, 1946.
Millie and Roger made their home in Minneapolis and adopted four infant children through Catholic Charities: Mark, Teresa, Kevin and Joseph. In the fall of 1970, they moved to Luck, Wisconsin.
Millie lost her husband, Roger on June 27th, 1991 and their son, Kevin on February 29th, 2004. She also lost daughter-in-law, Pat Nelson in 2009 and son-in-law, Jim Hanson in 2010.
Millie is survived by her son, Mark Nelson and his wife, Suzi; daughter, Teresa "Teri" Nelson Hanson; son, Joe Nelson and his wife, Rose; and daughter-in-law, Heidi Nelson; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many dear friends and relatives.
Her faith has always been an important part of Millie's life and she was an active church member and volunteering many hours until her health began to fail.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Frederic, WI on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Visitation at the church will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Millie will be laid to rest next to Roger at St. Dominic Catholic Cemetery following the service
