Obituary for Myrna C Swanson
Myrna Caroline Swanson, 86, died August 15, 2006, in Luck. Myrna was born April 22, 1920 to John Enoch Gustafson and Lillie (Swanson) Gustafson, at Balsam Lake. She was confirmed at Cushing Lutheran Church and was later baptized and joined Eureka Baptist Church. For most of her life, the Gustafson family lived in the Trap Rock area near Cushing. Myrna attended Trap Rock School before taking employment as a nanny in Minneapolis and later as a waitress in St. Croix Falls. On September 20, 1941, she married Ernest Swanson, and the couple farmed on the Swanson family farm northwest of Cushing until Ernie died in 1977. Three children were born to the couple. Richard, who died as an infant, Lory and Rod. In 1989 Myrna moved to Croix Falls and enjoyed her home there until 1999, when she moved to the Bethany Home in Centuria. She has resided at the Pioneer Home in Luck since 2003. Myrna found pleasure in spending time with her family, working in and around her home and serving at her church, Eureka Baptist. She loved flower and vegetable gardening, and her summers were busy with canning and freezing produce from her garden and the farm orchard. She was meticulous about keeping a tidy home and yard, and took pride in preparing large meals for her family or work crews at the farm. She is preceded in death by her husband; infant son Richard; her parents and sisters Arlene Jensen Larson and Rose Knauber. Myrna is survived by her children Lory (Wayne) Gustafson and Rodney (Nancy) Swanson; three grandchildren, Craig (Karen) Gustafson, Amy (Tim Sporre and Jenna Swanson; one great grandchild, Matthew Sporre; sister Deloris Sandberg; brother Clifford (Marjorie) Gustafson; sisters-in-law, Bernice Jensen and Mildred Hanson; brothers-in-law, Merle Knauber and Harold Mickelson; stepsister-in-law, Alice Kabeary and many nieces and nephews and other friends and relatives. Funeral services were held Friday, August 18, at Eureka Baptist Church, St. Croix Falls. Interment was at the Cushing cemetery. Rowe Funeral Home in Luck was entrusted with arrangements.
