Norma Welling, 82, of Balsam Lake, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 21st, 2017.
Norma was born July 5, 1935, the youngest of seven children, to John and Alma Ahlgren. She lived and worked on the family farm, Maple Crest, in Clam Falls Township. Norma attended Frederic schools excelling in Forensics and student government. After graduating in 1952, she attended Polk County Normal School in St. Croix Falls and received her teaching certificate in May of 1954. Norma went on to teach in Farmington and St. Croix Schools.
In May of 1955, she met Jack Welling. After 3 months of courtship, the two were engaged. They married on June 16th, 1956, at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Frederic, Wisconsin. Jack and Norma settled in Minneapolis where she continued her teaching profession for about eight more years. In the following years she took pride in raising her three children along with her husband, Jack. Norma was an excellent seamstress, baker, and homemaker.
In January of 1972, Jack and Norma purchased Skylite Supper Club and Sportsman’s Bar in Balsam Lake. After an extremely successful seven years, they sold the business. After selling the business, Norma worked in the insurance industry and later as a member of the Meals on Wheels program, preparing meals at the Milltown Community Center. After retiring, Norma enjoyed her grandchildren and caring for her husband in addition to socializing with family and friends.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; father, John; mother, Alma; siblings, Elizabeth, Jeannette, John Jr., Carl, Myrtle, and Anita.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Brad) Nielsen; sons, Michael and Matthew Welling; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Hans and Jonathan Nielsen and Taylor Welling; along with sisters-in-law, Audrey Yates, Murva Jacobsen; brother-in-law, Donald Jacobsen; nieces, Carolanne Hartman, Delphine (Joe) Casey, Kristine (Tom) Haldeman, Laurie Radmer, Patricia Schulz, Shirley (Tim) Chapman, Diana (Mike) Hovatter, Cindy (Geneo) Komarec, Mary Ellen (Bob) Kurzhals, Nannette (Jim) Oberg, Kathleen Jacobsen; nephews, John (Carol Jean) Nelson, Tom (Linda) Yates, Dan (Lyn) Yates, Jeff (Lesli) Yates, Mark (Kris) Jacobsen, Steven Jacobsen, Jim (Mary) Jacobsen; along with many beloved friends.
Norma has touched many lives during her life. Please join us on Friday, September 29th, at Rowe Funeral Home, 206 2nd Ave. East in Luck. Visitation will be begin at 12:00 pm with the memorial service at 1:00 pm. Following the memorial service we will have a Celebration of Life Gathering at McKenzie Lanes, 75 State Hwy 35, Centuria, WI.
