Obituary for Ray W. Shern
Ray William Shern, 74, died suddenly April 6th, 2007, at his home. Ray was born at home in Milltown, WI, on April 5th, 1933. He was the son of Arthur and Anna Shern and was the third of four sons. He was confirmed at Milltown Lutheran Church where he remained an active member. Ray graduated from Milltown High School and followed in this father's footsteps becoming a master plumber. After his father's passing, he took over the family business of Shern Plumbing and Heating. During retirement, Ray continued to work on a rare occasion when it didn't interfere with his fishing. On January 3rd, 1957, he was married to the love of his life, Carole Linder, and from this union, three daughters and two sons were born. Ray and Carole were completely devoted to each other; they recently reaffirmed their wedding vows at their 50th anniversary celebration. Ray was full of life and laughter. He spent his entire life in Milltown. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family at his hobby farm or at his place on Spirit Lake. He spent most summer weekends camping and fishing with his kids and grandkids. Ray loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on his hobby farm. He found serenity cutting wood in his back 40. He also enjoyed trips with friends and family to the Canadian wilderness to catch the big walleyes. Ray enjoyed playing cribbage and socializing with everyone. He also loved to dance and was nicknamed "Crazy Legs". Ray was an active member of AA and was especially pround that he would have celebrated 27 years of sobriety on April 12th, 2007. Ray is survived by his beautiful wife, Carole; their five children, Laura (Tom), Peggy, Renee, Tom (Emma), and Jon; their ten grandchildren, Ryan, Amanda, Nick, Allison, Bobby, Samantha, Noah, Willy, Gabby, Vanessa; and his beagle, Lucy. He is also survived by two brothers, Miles and Donald. He is preceded in death by his brother, Neil. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at Milltown Lutheran Church on Friday, April 13th, at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 12th, from 5-8:00 PM at Milltown Lutheran Church. Rowe Funeral Home of Luck was entrusted with arrangements.
