Obituary for Robert "Bob" E. Coen
Robert "Bob" Coen, Sr., 76, of Frederic, Wisconsin passed away June 11, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born February 19, 1938 to Luther and Lorella (Brace) Coen in Hope, North Dakota. The family moved to Luck, Wisconsin when Bob was very young. He attended Luck schools and graduated in 1956. Following graduation he attended Hamlin University for one year studying music. The following year he transferred to North Dakota State University in Fargo to earn his degree in pharmacy. During that time he married Elizabeth Olsen and to that union a son, Robert Edward Jr. was born. Upon graduating from NDSU, he and his family moved to Frederic where Bob started his pharmacy career at Olsen and Son Drug. Bob was a pharmacist and business owner for over 45 years owning the Olsen and Son Drug store in Frederic and eventually opening stores in both Luck and Siren. He retired in 2004. Throughout his life Bob was active in the Frederic community serving as a board member for the Village of Frederic, the Frederic Hospital, the Frederic Nursing Home and the Frederic Country Club along with the Luck Pioneer Home. He was also active in the Frederic Commercial Club. Currently Bob was on the board for Diversified Services, Inc. and vice president of the Snow Neighbors of West Sweden Snowmobile Club. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing with his lifelong friends for over 40 years and always looked forward to deer hunting at the Inn Between Camp, pheasant hunting in South Dakota, fishing trips to Canada and the annual River Rats canoe trip. He also enjoyed golfing and spending time at the lake with family and friends. Bob had a passion for construction and tackled many building and remodeling projects in his lifetime, the last being the lake cabin in 2013. In 2004, he married his longtime companion, Doreen Nahkala Denver. With this marriage Bob welcomed the opportunity to become a stepfather to Doreen's daughter, Casey. Bob was a loving father to Casey and truly cherished their relationship. He found a joy he had never known in 2008 when Casey's daughter, Gabby was born. His kind and gentle ways made him the perfect grandfather, and from that day on Gabby was the apple of his eye. Bob's priorities were always Rob, Casey and Gabby whether it was taking Rob to lunch every Monday, helping Casey with household projects or sitting for hours doing puzzles with Gabby. Bob was known for his kind, caring personality, always greeting friends with a smile, hug or handshake. He was a very patient man who truly enjoyed people. He had very good friends of all ages. Bob is survived by his wife, Doreen; son, Rob; daughter, Casey; granddaughter, Gabby; and cousin, Kandace Bergan Theisen and Tom Scherwenka. He is also survived by family members, Darlene Nahkala, Debbie Nahkala, Jack and Deanna Nahkala, Tom and Denise Nelson and their families, along with many, many special friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Frederic with lunch following the service. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family.
