Obituary for Ruth M. Boatman
Ruth Mathilda Augusta (Kallman) Boatman passed away at the age of 94 years, one month and 6 days at the St. Croix Regional Medical Center on September 26, 2014.
Ruth was born on August 20, 1920 in Laketown Township, Polk County, WI to Andrew and Britta (Gradin) Kallman. She was the youngest of 15 siblings. Ruth was raised on a small farm and attended the Alabama grade school and graduated from the Grantsburg High School in 1938. During her youth she attended the Trade River Evangelical Free Church. After graduation she moved to MN where she visited her aunt Anna and met Franklin Boatman in 1940.
On June 27th, 1941 she married Franklin Boatman at the court house in Center City, MN. After they were married, Frank joined the Navy and they moved out to Maine where Frank was stationed. After training he was shipped out to sea and Ruth remained in Maine where she was employed by Sears Roebuck. After Frank served his term in the Navy they moved to Minneapolis, MN. After their move to Mpls., Ruth was employed at Williams Steel Hardware in Mpls. working as an accountant for several years until her retirement. After Frank retired they moved to North Center Lake in Center City, MN where they enjoyed fishing and the country life.
Ruth and Frank made several trips to California to visit Ruth's sisters. One of her many travels was to Sweden to visit relatives and where a large family reunion was held.
After retirement they purchased the home farm where Ruth grew up. She did a lot of entertaining of family as they enjoyed coming back to the home place. Ruth was a great cook, bringing her favorite rice pudding to all family occasions.
Ruth enjoyed life. She always had a hug, a big smile, and a cup of coffee for everyone as they came to visit. She showed great interest in all of her nieces and nephews, always remembering special occasions in their lives.
Ruth is survived by her loving and caring husband, Frank; sister-in-law, Ann Kallman; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was a special person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Britta; her sisters, Esther (Hildur) Swenson, Anna May (Fred) Johnson, Bertha (Carl) Swenson, Amelia (Elmer) Palmquist, Ida Linnea (Fred) Nelson, Alva (Howard) Parmenter, Tolva Margareta (Hamilton); and brothers, Arnold (Agnes)Chellman, Leonard (Vivian) Kallman, Andy (June) Kallman, Enard (Florence) Kallman, Walter Kallman , Botvid Lars Olaf Kallman and Donald (Ann) Kallman; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Trade River Evangelical Free Church on Thursday, October 2nd with Pastor Dale Van Deusen officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
