Warren Harding Melin of Frederic, WI passed away peacefully on July 21, 2017 at the age of 96 years old surrounded by members of the family he loved and who loved him.Â
Warren was born in Trade Lake at the family home on June 30, 1921 to Axel and Edith (Baker) Melin. He was one of five children. He graduated from the Grantsburg High School and worked in the CCC Camp until he enlisted into the U.S. Army on July 13, 1942.  He was Honorably discharged on October 7, 1948. Warren was awarded the American Theatre ribbon, EAME ribbon with two bronze stars, Good Conduct medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.Â
He was united in marriage to Marion Mary Klotz on July 16, 1945 and to this union 6 children were born. Warren purchased the farm from his father and continued to farm until selling it to his eldest son, Alan in 1972. He was a respected public servant and actively served on the Frederic School Board, New Richmond WITC Board, Burnett County Board, Trade Lake Township Board, Trade Lake Mutual Insurance Board, and the Butternut Dairy Board. Warren was also an electrician and an insurance agent serving the local area. He also worked as a grant writer for the City of Rice Lake.Â
Warren and his wife, Marion enjoyed traveling all over the world as well as taking family trips to the east coast to visit historical sites, friends, and family.  Once warren retired from farming, they became snowbirds and wintered in Stuart, Florida for many years. In his later years Mary became a meaningful part of his and his family's lives keeping him active, healthy, and young at heart.
Preceding Warren in death were his parents; his wife, Marion (July 21, 2009); brothers, Leslie, Earnest and Glenn; sister, Amy Johnson; great-granddaughter, Haley Madsen; and great-grandsons, William and Blake Ayd. Â
He is survived by his loving companion, Mary Lengsfeld of Webster, WI; children, Alan of Trade Lake, WI, Gary (Elizabeth) of Lake Elmo, MN, Janet (Terry) Larson of Frederic, WI, Patricia (Rick) VanLue of North Port, FL, LaRayne (Steven) Ayd of Frederic, WI, and Duane (Kris) of Woodbury, MN, Jewel Melin of Peoria, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.Â
Honorary Pallbearers are his granddaughters, April Vogel, Julie Larson, Jamie Paro, Alissa Wilhelm, Caitlin Drake and Samantha Ripka.Â
Visitation will be held at Rowe Funeral Home in Frederic, WI on Wednesday, July 26th from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Â Memorial Services will be held at Trade Lake Baptist Church on Thursday, July 27th - visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00a.m. with Rev. David Prince officiating. Â Interment will be at Union Cemetery following the service.Â
