Wayne Edwin Shirley, 84, of Luck, Wisconsin, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 at the St. Croix Regional Medical Center.
Wayne, son of the late Ed and Daisy Shirley, was born August 5, 1933 in Bone Lake, WI. He was a member of the Bone Lake Lutheran Church and resided in Bone Lake Township the majority of his life. He started as a dairy farmer and retired as a rural mail carrier after 31 years. Wayne has spent a lifetime of serving the community.
On August 31, 1963, he married Patsy Dueholm in Bone Lake who survives him.
Wayne was very outgoing and enjoyed interacting with people. He was happy to serve the public on many boards and committees. Most notable were 43 years on the Bone Lake Town Board, Polk County Board of Supervisors, Lakeland Telephone Company, Luck Rural Fire Association, United Pioneer Home Board and Bone Lake Lutheran Church Counsel. As he served, he was the type of person who could not only take it, but give it pretty well.
Wayne enjoyed many activities which included woodworking, playing cards, gardening and lots of lawn mowing.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patsy Shirley; three children, Karen Tuynman of Luck, Margie Thompson and her husband Jeff of Barron, Edwin Shirley of Delavan; four grandchildren, Dillon Tuynman and wife Alison, Daniel Tuynman and wife Charlae, Alissa Lechleitner and husband Jon, Amanda Riedman and husband Adrian; two step-grandchildren, Eric Thompson and Alex Thompson; one great-grandchild, Becker Tuynman; one sister, Carol McDonough.
Preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Shirley; sister, Irene Rasmussen; and son-in-law, Tony Tuynman.
A visitation will be held at the Rowe Funeral Home in Luck, WI on Thursday, November 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The memorial service will be held at the Bone Lake Lutheran Church on Friday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m.
