Obituary for William L. Lauer
William Laurence Lauer, 17, resident of Grantsburg, WI, died Thursday, January 28, 2010.
Even before he could speak, we all knew that William was the special Lauer. Whether asking us questions like, "Do potato chips come from a potato cow?" when he was four, or spouting off facts about the Titanic during dinner, from his very beginning he had a creative and curious mind that was unmatched during the entirely too short seventeen years he was with us. Will was known well for his quirky comments, smart remarks, his contagious smile and laugh, intelligence, and hard work ethic. His attitude was contagious and spread like wildfire.
Will accomplished more in his seventeen years than most of us hope to accomplish our entire lives. Not only did he succeed academically, maintaining a 4.0 during high school, but also started investing his money in sixth grade and took investment class at Edward Jones after school. He was a member of the NHS (National Honor Society) at Grantsburg high school, and participated in many extra curricular activities such as, mock trial, forensics, FCCLA, Link group, Scuba Diving/Research Biology club, Theater, and in the Immaculate Conception Youth Group. After high school he wanted to attend college in Florida and majoring in hospital administration/management.
But more significant than any of his many accomplishments, his greatest achievement was that he was a genuinely great human being. He was so patient with his 3 younger sisters, despite their many shenanigans. He never made another person feel unwanted or insignificant, and we can only hope now that he felt he received the same in return.
William is survived by his mother and father, Joan and Peter Lauer and his siblings Jessica, Elizabeth, Sarah, Nicholas, Johanna, Audrey and Victoria and grandmother, Mary Marcella Lauer, as well as his extended family and many friends.
