Obituary for Janet F. MacKinnon
Janet F. MacKinnon, 70, passed away at her home on February 25, 2017 with her sons, Roger II and Cory, by her side. She fought a two-year bout with cancer. Janet was born on June 21, 1946 to Vernace "Ted" and Lillian (Swanson) Hughes in Georgetown Township. She was the fourth of seven children. She graduated from Unity High School in May, 1964 and left in 1965 to live with Ms. Madrid MacKinnon in Queens, NY, in preparation to wed Roger MacKinnon I on April 3, 1965. She had met Roger at a local dance in the summer of 1964 when he was visiting family in Cumberland, WI.
Her first son, Roger II was born on April 11, 1966, and her second son, Cory was born on August 7, 1967. She drove school bus for Springfield Township Elementary School (Jobstown, NJ) when Roger II entered grade school in 1971. After Roger I passed away in 1980, Janet and her two boys moved back to Milltown, WI, where she built her present home. She started driving school bus for Unity School District in 1981 and worked as a janitor at the school until 2015, after 34 years of service.
Janet is survived by her sons, Roger II of St. Cloud, MN, and Cory (Kim) of Balsam Lake, WI; her twin grandchildren, Connor and Kaitlyn MacKinnon of River Falls, WI; sisters, Laura "Tudy" Van Pelt and Julie (Joe) Carey of Luck, WI; brother, Delbert Hughes of Milltown, WI; and her three Shelties, Fritzi, Feisty and Freto.
Janet is preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her parents, Vernace and Lillian; sister, Nancy; brothers, Gerald and Ted; along with beloved Shelties, Sammi, Freckles, Frodo, Friendly and Ferdy; and her beloved horse, Marshall.
There will be no funeral or service per Janet's request.
